Announced during the India Mobile Congress 2025, the partnership gives eligible Jio users complimentary access to Gemini Advanced—Google’s premium AI assistant built on its most powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model. The offer is bundled with select Jio mobile and broadband plans and includes 2TB of Google One cloud storage, typically priced at ₹1,950/month. This move positions Google to rapidly scale Gemini’s reach in India, where Jio commands over 450 million subscribers.
The deal is part of a broader collaboration between Google and Reliance Industries, which includes a $10 billion “Google for India” digitization fund and a joint venture to develop affordable Android smartphones. With this latest initiative, Google aims to democratize access to generative AI tools in a market that’s mobile-first and price-sensitive. Jio users will be able to use Gemini Advanced for tasks like coding help, content creation, language translation, and productivity assistance—all in multiple Indian languages.
The partnership also reflects Google’s strategy to counter rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft, who are expanding their AI offerings globally. By embedding Gemini into Jio’s ecosystem, Google gains a massive distribution channel and a foothold in a market where AI adoption is still in its early stages. The rollout is expected to begin in late 2025, with broader availability planned for 2026.
