Following the unveiling of GPT-5, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on X that the powerful new AI model would be integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and other Microsoft platforms. Nadella described GPT-5 as “OpenAI’s most capable AI model yet” and highlighted Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI.
In a sharp and provocative reply, Elon Musk warned Nadella that “OpenAI will eat Microsoft alive.” Nadella, responding with humor, remarked, “People have been trying for 50 years, and that’s the fun of it! You learn something new every day, innovate, collaborate, and compete. I’m excited for Grok 4 on Azure and looking forward to Grok 5!”
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also weighed in on Musk’s comments during an interview with CNBC, saying, “I don’t think about [Musk] much. He just spends all day on X tweeting about how terrible OpenAI is, how bad our model is, and how we’ll never be a good company.”
Musk and Altman’s rivalry is nothing new. Both co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk left in 2018 following disagreements over the company’s direction. Earlier this year, Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion — a proposal Altman rejected, later joking on social media: “No thanks, but if you want, we can buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.”
