Reddit, the popular social network and forum platform, experienced significant outages.
The connection issues began around 11:20 a.m. ET, as noted by Downdetector, a site that gathers user-reported disruptions globally. At its height, over 90,000 users reported problems with the service on the downtime tracking website.
By 11:52 a.m. ET, Reddit Status, the company’s dedicated outage monitoring site, acknowledged that it was looking into “elevated errors” affecting both the website and the app.
Shortly thereafter, Reddit identified the source of the problem, and by 12:10 p.m. ET, the company implemented a fix and stated it was “monitoring results.” At 12:21 p.m. ET, the Reddit Status page confirmed that all systems had returned to normal.
When contacted for further details, a Reddit spokesperson explained, “We were briefly unable to connect to one of our databases, which led to the downtime. A fix was deployed swiftly, and we are now operational again.”
According to its status page, Reddit reported “elevated errors” on three occasions in February and a few weeks prior to this incident.
