Brave is updating its AI-powered search tools by introducing a new detailed answers feature, expanding beyond simple summaries to deliver deeper, report-style responses. The enhancement is part of Brave’s Ask Brave product, which now offers longer answers enriched with context, links, videos, and related content — all tailored to the user’s query.
Unlike the earlier AI Answers mode, which generated concise summaries, the new detailed answers format gives users the option to dive deeper. These answers resemble a mini-report rather than just a snippet. The system can also pivot into a chat mode, where follow-ups and rephrasing are supported, making the experience feel more interactive and flexible.
Brave says the new feature does not require a switch to a specialized mode — the search engine detects what kind of query is being asked and decides whether a full answer or summary is more appropriate. Users can access the feature by clicking the “Ask” button next to the search field, or by appending a double question mark (“??”) to their query, indicating they want a detailed response.
One of the distinguishing claims is that Brave’s system combines its own search API with internal AI models, aiming for a balance between up-to-date web data and natural language generation. The company also emphasizes privacy: conversation data is encrypted, and chats are deleted after 24 hours of inactivity.
Brave says that it already handles more than 15 million AI-powered answers per day through its earlier systems, and expects usage to grow further with the introduction of detailed answers. With this rollout, Brave is competing more directly with Google’s AI search features — offering users more depth without sacrificing the privacy experience Brave prioritizes.
