Meta is preparing to showcase the future of wearable technology at its annual Meta Connect 2025 event, with a special focus on AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that people who do not use smart glasses might eventually face a “significant cognitive disadvantage,” highlighting Meta’s confidence in the transformative potential of these devices.

The upcoming Ray-Ban glasses are expected to feature a built-in display for apps and notifications, voice-activated AI assistance, and a wristband for gesture-based controls. These improvements are designed to enhance both functionality and style, providing users with practical ways to interact with information while on the move. Meta aims to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing global smart glasses market, which is projected to reach $8.26 billion by 2030.

By combining AI intelligence with real-world usability, Meta hopes that these smart glasses will define its hardware strategy beyond social media, giving the company a stronger foothold in the next generation of wearable technology. This launch also represents a chance for Meta to recover from past missed opportunities, such as its limited success in the smartphone market during the 2000s and the challenges faced in its 2021 metaverse initiative.
