OpenAI has expanded access to its organizational hub, Projects, making this once-premium feature accessible to free-tier ChatGPT users. Starting now, users on the free plan can create dedicated project spaces to group related conversations, upload reference files, and set custom instructions for a more focused AI experience.
Within each Project, users can manage their workflow by adding up to five files—a noticeable upgrade that allows context-rich tasks like creative writing, schoolwork, or research. Plus and Pro users retain higher limits, enabling 25 and 40 files per Project respectively. This rollout is currently live on web and Android, with support for iOS expected soon.
Projects elevate the ChatGPT experience by enabling cleaner organization and smoother continuity. Users can label Projects with unique colors and icons, keeping their workspace intuitive and visually distinct.
