Google has introduced a new feature for its Google Photos app that allows users to edit their images using natural language commands, either by voice or text. Powered by the Gemini AI model, this “conversational editing” tool makes it possible to perform complex edits without needing to use sliders, tools, or menus.

The feature understands a wide range of commands, from specific requests like “remove the cars in the background” to more general instructions such as “make it better.” Users can also make creative changes, such as altering a photo’s background or adding items like sunglasses or party hats. This is designed to make powerful editing tools more accessible to everyone, regardless of their editing skills.

The new functionality is launching first on the Pixel 10 series in the U.S. and will gradually roll out to other Android and iOS devices in the coming weeks. To promote transparency around AI-edited images, Google is also adding support for C2PA Content Credentials, which will provide information on how an image was captured or modified.
