BMW’s ultra-limited Speedtop has already sold out—just moments after it was officially revealed. Based on the 8 Series and introduced as a concept during the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in May, the Speedtop is a rare shooting brake that blends BMW’s high-performance engineering with a truly unique design. Although technically labeled a concept, BMW plans to build just 70 units of the Speedtop, all of which were immediately claimed.
Speaking during BMW’s H1 2025 earnings call, CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed the Speedtop “immediately sold out” following its Lake Como debut. While BMW hasn’t officially disclosed pricing, Zipse described it as being in “a never-before-achieved upper price range.” According to BMW Blog, unnamed sources estimate the price at approximately $500,000 per unit.
The Speedtop is built on the foundation of the 8 Series coupe, featuring distinct bodywork with an extended roofline and hatchback-style rear. Under the hood lies BMW’s most powerful V8 engine, likely the 617-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter unit from the M8, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
This marks the second special-edition project based on the 8 Series to debut at Villa d’Este, following last year’s Skytop—a targa-roof coupe limited to just 50 units. Although the Speedtop will have a slightly larger production run, both models are extremely rare and unlikely to be seen outside elite automotive events like Monterey Car Week.
BMW’s limited-run creations appear to be striking a chord with collectors and enthusiasts alike. The company has hinted that its “small series” team may soon roll out more exclusive builds, possibly under the BMW M division. With demand surging, some fans are even speculating about the long-awaited revival of the iconic BMW M1.
