Apple is getting ready to release a new entry-level iPad in spring 2026, and it looks like this model will offer much more than just a low price. The upcoming iPad is expected to include a powerful A18 chip, 8GB of RAM, and at least 128GB of storage. What makes it special is that, for the first time, a base-model iPad might support Apple Intelligence, a group of new AI features that used to be available only on high-end devices. That includes smart writing help, voice and text translation, Genmoji (AI-made emoji), and even ChatGPT integration via Siri.
The new iPad will come with iPadOS 26, offering a more flexible interface, resizable windows, better multitasking, and a new menu bar. It’s also expected to support the Apple Pencil Pro, with features like hover and squeeze. The display will likely stay around 11 inches, but with better brightness and full lamination. USB-C remains the standard port, and despite all the upgrades, the price is still expected to be around $399, making it a solid option for anyone looking for a capable, affordable tablet.
In addition to the major changes in design and performance, iPadOS 26 will also introduce several new apps and tools. The Calculator app now supports 3D graphing, while the Notes app will let users write using Markdown formatting and export their notes more easily. A new Preview app adds better PDF editing and file viewing features, and the Settings app has been redesigned with a more modern, sidebar-based layout similar to macOS. The system’s interface now features Liquid Glass, a new visual layer with soft transparency and motion effects. Users will also benefit from advanced audio controls, including the ability to select different microphones for each app and record high-quality local audio during meetings. The update also brings a dedicated Game Mode for improved performance in gaming, and a new Journal app designed for personal writing, mood tracking, and daily reflections. Plus, creative users will have access to a new Reed Pen tool for calligraphy-style writing across supported apps. All of these additions help position the 2026 iPad as much more than just a budget device, it’s shaping up to be a serious everyday workhorse.
