An increasing number of Tesla owners are listing their used vehicles for sale, driven by consumer responses to Elon Musk’s political activities and the global protests they have sparked.
According to a report by Sherwood News, citing data from Cox Automotive, the volume of used Teslas available on Autotrader.com surged in March. The peak occurred during the last week of March, when over 13,000 used Tesla vehicles were listed for sale on average, marking a record high and a 67% increase from the same week the previous year.
In parallel, the sales of new Tesla vehicles have declined, even as electric vehicle (EV) sales from competing brands continue to grow. The latest report from Kelley Blue Book indicates that nearly 300,000 new EVs were sold in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 10.6%. In contrast, Tesla’s sales dropped by almost 9% compared to the first quarter of 2024.
While competitors like GM and Hyundai are still trailing Tesla, they are beginning to see significant growth. For example, GM brands reported sales of over 30,000 EVs in the first quarter, nearly doubling their sales figures from a year ago, according to Kelley Blue Book.
