Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is set to conduct a hackathon next week aimed at developing a comprehensive “mega API” that will grant access to taxpayer information, as reported by Wired.
The event is being coordinated by Gavin Kliger and Sam Corcos, a DOGE employee and CEO of the healthtech firm Levels, both stationed at the Internal Revenue Service. Corcos has indicated his ambition to create “one new API to rule them all,” streamlining the process for cloud service providers to retrieve IRS data such as taxpayer identities, addresses, social security numbers, tax filings, and employment records, all of which could be transferred to external systems. Wired notes that a third-party vendor may oversee certain aspects of the initiative, with Palantir frequently mentioned as a potential option.
An anonymous IRS employee reportedly expressed concern to Wired, stating, “It’s essentially an open door controlled by Musk for all Americans’ most sensitive information without the usual safeguards in place.”
