Samsung Is Holding Back a Key One UI 8.5 Feature for the Galaxy S26 Launch

Samsung appears to be deliberately saving one of the most anticipated One UI 8.5 features for the launch of the Galaxy S26 series, rather than releasing it during the current beta phase. The AI-powered notification summary, which many users expected to test early, is notably absent from the beta update despite being technically ready.

According to a well-known leaker, several One UI 8.5 features are disabled in the beta because they are planned as Galaxy S26-exclusive AI features. Among them is the notification summary tool powered by Samsung’s in-house Gauss AI model. This feature is designed to analyze notifications from various apps and generate a concise summary of activity from the past 24 hours, helping users manage information overload more efficiently.

Interestingly, Samsung initially intended to roll out this feature with One UI 7 earlier this year. However, despite Gauss AI already being available on the Galaxy S24 lineup, the feature was quietly delayed. This strongly suggests that Samsung decided to reposition it as a headline feature for the Galaxy S26 unveiling, giving the new flagship lineup a stronger AI-focused selling point.

The strategy also implies that the AI notification summary may be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series at launch, alongside other rumored features such as Now Nudges and 3D Live lock screen effects. While Samsung may eventually bring these tools to other devices through stable One UI 8.5 updates, older models—especially those with limited on-device AI capabilities—might be left out entirely.

If this approach holds, devices like the Galaxy S25 series and the upcoming Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 could receive the feature later, while the Galaxy S23 series may not support it due to hardware limitations. Samsung’s move mirrors a broader industry trend, where major AI features are increasingly used to differentiate new flagship devices rather than being shared evenly across older models.
