Google is expanding the power of its Gemini AI assistant by weaving it directly into the Chrome browser on iPhones and iPads, giving users a new way to interact with web content without leaving the page they’re on. With this update, a new Gemini button appears in the Chrome address bar, replacing the older visual-search icon and opening up contextual assistance throughout everyday browsing.

Once the feature is active, tapping the Gemini icon opens a small panel over the current page where you can ask the AI questions about what you’re reading, request a page summary, or generate a quick list of frequently asked questions related to the content. For example, you might ask for key takeaways from a long article, have technical jargon explained in simpler terms, or get help comparing options presented on a shopping site — all without switching apps or copying text manually. Responses appear in a floating overlay that keeps the original webpage visible in the background, making it easier to keep context while you browse.

This Gemini integration also gives users prompts to get started more easily, such as suggestions to summarize the page or create FAQ items about the topic. Beyond summaries, the assistant can help with deeper exploration of content, explanations of complex topics, recipe adjustments or preference-based comparisons, giving more flexibility than a typical search tool.

The rollout is happening gradually, with English-language users in certain regions seeing the feature first. To use it, you must be signed into Chrome and have the latest app version; it doesn’t work in private browsing modes. While the capabilities are not as extensive as a full standalone AI app, having Gemini embedded directly in Chrome makes smart assistance feel like a natural part of mobile web navigation.

For iPhone users who do a lot of reading, research or shopping online, this update brings a meaningful upgrade. Instead of jumping back and forth between a browser and a separate AI app, you can get instant, AI-assisted insights right where you are — making browsing more informative and efficient.
