Samsung is preparing a meaningful upgrade for its next major software release, One UI 8.5, and one of the most interesting changes may be the expansion of the Samsung Notes Math Solver feature to a wider range of Galaxy phones. The tool, which automatically solves equations directly inside Samsung Notes, first appeared on tablets before reaching Galaxy Z devices and S Pen–supported flagships. Now, new evidence suggests it may soon arrive on even more models that currently lack S Pen functionality.
This information comes from a firmware leak analyzed by SamMobile, where the Samsung Notes APK included in One UI 8.5 showed the Math Solver fully active. Testers were even able to run it successfully on a Galaxy S23, a device without any native S Pen support. While this doesn’t guarantee Samsung will officially enable the feature on all non–S Pen phones, it strongly hints at broader availability once the update is finalized. Samsung will most likely clarify its plans once One UI 8.5 begins rolling out to the public.
According to early reports, the Galaxy S26 series will be the first to ship with One UI 8.5 out of the box, with the update later becoming available to other compatible Galaxy models. As of now, Math Solver is officially supported only on One UI 8.0 devices with S Pen compatibility, such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Math Solver itself is a highly practical addition to Samsung Notes. Users can type or handwrite a variety of equations — including arithmetic, trigonometry, and logarithmic expressions — and simply add an equals sign to receive an instant solution. The ability to process handwritten input makes it especially useful for students or professionals who prefer jotting down formulas rather than entering them into a calculator. The convenience of solving equations directly inside a note means users no longer need to switch apps, copy values, or interrupt their workflow.
For many people, this could streamline everyday tasks ranging from budgeting and schoolwork to quick on-the-go calculations. Even casual uses become easier, like splitting bills or organizing shared expenses, all without leaving the Notes app. With One UI 8.5 apparently preparing to expand access to this tool, a much larger portion of Samsung’s user base could soon benefit from its speed and simplicity.
If Samsung follows through with this wider rollout, Math Solver may become one of the most universally appreciated upgrades in One UI 8.5. Now the only question is how many devices Samsung will officially approve once the update goes live.
