Galaxy S26 Lineup Reshaped: Plus Model Returns, Edge Variant Cancelled

Samsung has quietly reshaped its upcoming Galaxy S26 flagship series, reversing previous plans and re-introducing the “Plus” model after originally intending to launch an “Edge” variant instead. According to fresh leaks, the ultra-slim Edge version was shelved due to weak sales of its predecessor, and the company will now return to the well-known trio: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus and Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Initially, Samsung had toyed with dropping the Plus model in favour of the Edge, aiming for a thinner, curvier design that would rival rival devices. But after the Galaxy S25 Edge failed to gain traction, the Korean firm has opted to resurrect the Plus model, while the Edge project appears cancelled — at least for now. The revamped line-up suggests Samsung is steering back towards proven strategies instead of experimental form factors.

For consumers, the re-appearance of the S26 Plus signals better balance: premium features without the extreme price or niche positioning of an ultra-thin device. Early hardware reports suggest the Plus will likely carry forward many of the S25’s camera and display elements while introducing incremental enhancements—leaving the Ultra model as the true showcase of innovation.

Internally this move may reflect a recognition that flagship smartphone buyers still prioritise battery life, camera versatility and mobile performance over ultra-thin styling. By dropping the Edge and restoring the Plus, Samsung is acknowledging the market’s appetite for familiar value propositions rather than radical form-factors.

As always with pre-launch leaks, final specs, pricing and availability are still subject to change. Samsung is expected to reveal the S26 family at its early-2026 event, where things like launch dates, regional chipset variants and exact model naming will be clarified. For now, the message is clear: the “Plus” is back, the “Edge” is gone — Samsung is returning to what sells.
