Google’s Pixel smartphones have officially been approved for use by U.S. federal agencies, including the military. This means that government departments—such as the Department of War, now known as the Department of Defense—can now purchase and use Pixel devices for official communications. Google described this achievement as a major milestone demonstrating its commitment to providing secure and advanced technology for public institutions.

Several Pixel models have been added to the Department of Defense Information Network Approved Products List (DoDIN APL), a list of devices cleared by the U.S. government after strict security evaluations. Google called this “a significant milestone that underscores our commitment to providing federal agencies with secure, cutting-edge technology.” It’s somewhat ironic, considering that the same government has accused Google of monopolistic behavior, but the company is still being recognized for its security excellence.

Independent reports also back Google’s claims, ranking the Pixel 9 lineup as the most secure smartphone series available. Google says the Pixel 9 phones are “mission-ready,” capable of maintaining secure communication even in remote or demanding environments. The Tensor G4 processor and Titan M2 security chip work together to create multiple layers of data protection, while the company promises at least seven years of security and Android updates, including regular Pixel Feature Drops.

Beyond security, Google highlights the integration of AI capabilities across the Pixel 9 lineup. One military agency in charge of fuel logistics and inspection across 500 global sites will now use Google Cloud services and Pixel devices to digitize and securely transmit inspection data. Previously handled manually, this data will now be captured and processed in real-time through Pixel’s advanced software and secure cloud connection.

Google has also launched a dedicated page called “Google Pixel for Public Sector,” emphasizing that the devices are built with trusted technology and in-depth threat protection to help public employees connect and collaborate securely—even in the most challenging environments. The AI-powered features showcased on the Pixel 9 series include Gemini, the built-in assistant, Summarize for reading written content aloud, Live Translate for real-time text translation, and Circle to Search, which lets users search or translate anything on the screen without switching apps. These innovations have helped Pixel earn its place among the most secure and versatile government-approved devices.
