Google Launches Comprehensive “Pixel Care” to Cover Its Entire Hardware Lineup

Google has launched an ambitious new device protection program, Pixel Care, as a direct response to a fragmented and often criticized support experience for its hardware. This new offering marks a substantial evolution from the previous “Preferred Care” plan, providing a more robust and user-friendly system for device repair and support. The program extends coverage beyond just Pixel phones to include tablets, watches, and eligible Fitbit devices, signaling a unified approach to its product ecosystem.

The most notable feature of Pixel Care is the introduction of unlimited claims for accidental damage, a significant departure from the two-per-year limit of the old plan. This change, coupled with a $0 deductible for common repairs like cracked screens and battery replacements, is designed to give users peace of mind and lower the barrier to getting their devices fixed. The service also includes a new partnership with Asurion for on-site, same-day repairs in select locations, offering a level of convenience that has long been a key selling point for competitors.

Customers can enroll in the program at the time of purchase or within 60 days of buying their device, with options for both monthly and two-year fixed-term plans. The plan also has an optional add-on for loss and theft coverage, which is limited to two claims per year. This comprehensive overhaul of Google’s post-sale support is a strategic move to address past customer frustrations and solidify its position in the competitive hardware market by providing a more reliable and streamlined service experience.
