Huawei is preparing to steal some spotlight from Apple this September. Just days before the iPhone 17 series is unveiled on September 9, the Chinese tech giant will debut its second-generation triple foldable, the Huawei Mate XTs, in China on September 4, 2025.
The Mate XTs will be the world’s second commercially available triple-folding phone, following last year’s Mate XT, which launched in China on September 20 before expanding internationally in March. A similar rollout is expected this time, with wider availability likely in early 2026.
Pricing is expected to be more consumer-friendly than the original’s steep $3,500. Reports suggest the Mate XTs will retail for around 15,000 yuan ($2,100), putting it closer to mainstream foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 ($2,000 starting price).
For international buyers, importing remains an option, though challenges persist. Huawei’s devices lack native Google services due to U.S. trade restrictions, meaning users may need workarounds like microG to run apps like Gmail and Maps.
The Mate XTs will face stiff competition from Samsung’s long-rumored Galaxy Z TriFold, expected to launch later this year, possibly in October. While Huawei has the advantage of being first to market with its second-generation design, Samsung could benefit from broader global availability.
Despite ongoing U.S. restrictions that block Huawei devices from officially entering the U.S. market, the Mate XTs underscores Huawei’s commitment to innovation and its push to define the future of foldable smartphones.
