YouTube Music is celebrating its 10th anniversary by rolling out several new features aimed at boosting user engagement and taking on Spotify more directly. One of the standout additions is the “Taste Match” playlist, which merges the overlapping music preferences of multiple users into a single, daily-updated playlist. This feature encourages shared listening experiences among friends, similar to Spotify’s Blend.
Alongside the playlists, YouTube Music has introduced new social features, including the ability for users to comment on albums and playlists. To recognize dedicated fans, loyalty badges like “First to Watch” and “Top Listener” have been added. Artists also gain new tools to track significant milestones, such as reaching 100,000, 1 million, or even 1 billion views on their music videos.
In a push to enhance the overall experience, YouTube Music partnered with Bandsintown to provide users with notifications about upcoming concerts, merchandise, and new releases. These updates will be integrated directly into the app, keeping fans informed about their favorite artists in real time.
As of March 2025, YouTube Music and YouTube Premium together boast over 125 million subscribers, signaling strong growth and ongoing efforts to expand the platform’s features and user base.
