Google has introduced a new shortcut button in Google Drive to make video editing faster and more accessible. When users preview a video in Drive, a new “Open” button appears in the top right corner. Clicking this button takes users directly into Google’s AI-powered video editing app, Vids, where they can trim clips, add music, insert text, and apply other edits without leaving Drive.
This update strengthens the integration between Google Drive and Google Workspace tools, aiming to streamline workflows for creators and professionals who manage video content. Since its launch last year, Vids has offered features like automatic video creation from text prompts, script generation, clip rearrangement, and transition effects. The new shortcut enhances these capabilities by simplifying access to the editor straight from the storage platform.
The change follows Google’s recent rollout of an AI-powered video summarization feature for Workspace users, which automatically generates video highlights from files stored in Drive. Together, these developments showcase Google’s commitment to embedding AI deeply into productivity tools, making video editing more efficient and accessible for users across different skill levels.
