Apple is preparing to bolster its enterprise AI offerings with new configuration options that will empower businesses to fine-tune how employees access and use external artificial intelligence tools. These updates are scheduled to arrive with Apple’s major software release in September and are designed to give IT administrators granular control over AI integration across devices.
A standout feature enables companies to manage access to an enterprise version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT—but Apple’s design isn’t limited to that. Administrators can permit or block any external AI provider, leaving room for integrations with future partners such as Anthropic, Google, or Microsoft, and ensuring that the system remains adaptable as enterprise AI evolves.
With this framework, businesses control whether employee AI requests are processed locally on devices or routed to the cloud—even without a direct enterprise contract with OpenAI. Apple’s underlying Private Cloud Compute architecture remains available, but companies now have the flexibility to decide the processing path that best aligns with their privacy and compliance standards.
These AI configuration features are part of a broader enterprise-focused update. Apple is introducing a new API for Apple Business Manager, enabling seamless integration with IT tools like mobile device management (MDM) systems, help desks, and inventory management services. Other enhancements include a streamlined tool for migrating devices between management systems—especially useful during mergers and acquisitions—and a refined “Return to Service” feature that now supports Vision Pro and retains installed apps when wiping devices for reuse.
Further upgrades improve shared Mac usage and security in corporate environments. An authenticated Guest Mode permits users to log in with enterprise credentials while ensuring their data (though not apps) is wiped upon logout. Additionally, Macs can now support NFC reader integration, allowing secure, tap-based authentication using an Apple Watch or iPhone.
Arriving across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS, these updates signal Apple’s commitment to delivering powerful AI tools in a framework that keeps enterprises firmly in control.
