Threads, Meta’s text-based social platform and direct competitor to X (formerly Twitter), has reached a new milestone with over 400 million monthly active users (MAUs). The announcement was made by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, highlighting the platform’s rapid growth in just under two years since its launch.
This latest figure marks a significant increase from the 350 million MAUs reported in April. Threads’ steady user acquisition has positioned it as a serious rival to X, which, according to unofficial statements, has approximately 600 million monthly active users. Data from the analytics firm Similarweb shows that Threads is also gaining ground in daily mobile app usage, with 115.1 million daily active users compared to X’s 132 million. However, X still maintains a considerable lead in web traffic.
Focus on New Features and User Engagement
Threads’ success is attributed to Meta’s continuous efforts to improve the platform and introduce new features. In recent months, Threads has rolled out key functionalities such as direct messaging, Fediverse integration, custom feeds, and AI-powered tools. Mosseri has stated that the platform’s goal is to evolve beyond just competing with X and become a “meaningful platform that fosters the open exchange of perspectives.” This focus on user-centric features and rapid growth demonstrates that Threads is solidifying its place in the social media landscape and is set to intensify its competition with X.
