Since its debut in 2019, the Genesis G70 has carved out a strong reputation as one of the most engaging and stylish sports sedans on the market. With a finely tuned chassis, a potent V-6 engine, and driving dynamics capable of rivaling premium German competitors like BMW’s 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the G70 quickly won over enthusiasts. At one point, it even offered a manual transmission, a rarity in the luxury sedan segment.
However, new reports suggest this performance-driven sedan may not be around much longer. According to Automotive News, Genesis currently has production planned only until 2027, and there are allegedly no plans for a second-generation G70. This would mean discontinuation not just in the United States, but globally.
This isn’t the first time such rumors have surfaced. In August 2023, Korea’s JoongAng Daily reported that Genesis would kill off the G70 after its first generation. Earlier this year, another report indicated Genesis aimed to move further upmarket, potentially focusing on larger, more luxurious models and electric vehicles.
Despite this, Genesis has officially denied any plans to end production. In a statement to Motor1, a company spokesperson said:
“We have no plans to discontinue G70 at this time. Genesis introduced the newly enhanced G70 sport sedan early last year, and the latest 2026 models are currently available at U.S. retailers. G70 remains our third-highest-selling model in the United States, representing nearly one in six Genesis sales, and we will continue to offer models that meet the needs of U.S. consumers.”
The G70 received a major facelift in 2022, introducing Genesis’s distinctive “Two Lines” LED design, along with cabin upgrades. In 2024, the model was updated again, adding a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 300 horsepower, standard Brembo brakes, and improved technology features. The V-6 3.3T trim remains the enthusiast’s choice, delivering robust acceleration and refined handling.
Sales performance, while solid, trails the brand’s SUV lineup. In 2024, Genesis sold 12,258 G70s in the U.S., compared to 26,944 GV70s and 22,843 GV80s. As of mid-2025, G70 sales stand at 5,136 units. Pricing for the 2026 model year starts at $44,245 for the base 2.5T RWD and $54,395 for the 3.3T V-6.
If production does end after 2027, it would mark the conclusion of one of the industry’s best-kept sports sedan secrets. For now, the G70 remains on sale, offering drivers a balance of performance, luxury, and value in a shrinking sedan market dominated by SUVs and electrification. Enthusiasts may want to grab one while they still can.
