Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy recently revealed plans to introduce advertisements within Alexa+ conversations. Alexa+ is Amazon’s advanced AI voice assistant designed to engage users in interactive dialogues, helping with shopping, discovery, and more. This new advertising approach would allow brands to seamlessly promote their products during these conversations, creating a fresh revenue stream for Amazon.
Currently, Alexa+ is offered as a subscription service—free for Amazon Prime members and available for $20 a month to others. So far, ads on Alexa have mostly been limited to occasional audio spots or visual ads on devices with screens. The upcoming plan aims to integrate dynamic, AI-driven ads directly into the flow of conversations, making promotions feel more natural and relevant.
This move puts Amazon alongside competitors like Google and OpenAI, who are exploring advertising in their AI products. However, the idea of ads in voice conversations raises questions about user privacy, as Alexa+ collects data to personalize experiences. Balancing monetization with trust will be a key challenge for Amazon as it rolls out these features.
