Sony has officially unveiled the FlexStrike, its first-ever arcade-style controller designed specifically for fighting games on the PlayStation 5 and PC. Previously codenamed “Project Defiant,” the FlexStrike is set to make its public debut during Evo 2025 in Las Vegas, scheduled from August 1 to 3. The controller is expected to launch commercially sometime in 2026.
The FlexStrike marks a significant step for Sony as it expands its hardware offerings to cater to the fighting game community. The controller supports both wired connectivity via USB-C and wireless operation through the PlayStation Link adapter, with low-latency performance specifically optimized for competitive gameplay. It also offers compatibility with the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds.
Sony has integrated thoughtful features to enhance local multiplayer setups. Two FlexStrike units can connect to a single PlayStation Link adapter, and users can simultaneously keep a DualSense controller connected for menu navigation. Additionally, the PS button on the FlexStrike allows players to power on their PS5 with a single press.
Ergonomically, the FlexStrike is engineered for comfort during extended gaming sessions. It includes a digital joystick, eight mechanical buttons styled after the DualSense layout, a touchpad, and a special direction switch. A dedicated lock button prevents accidental inputs during heated matches.
Customization is another standout feature. The FlexStrike includes interchangeable gates for directional movement, with circular, square, and octagonal options all housed in a built-in compartment beneath the controller alongside the USB adapter. The angled surface design and removable lower panel further enhance its comfort and usability.
Powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, the FlexStrike also comes with a shoulder-carry case for portability. While Sony has yet to announce a price, the FlexStrike’s premium features suggest it is aimed at serious fighting game enthusiasts.
