Just a couple of years ago, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was one of the most desirable cars in America. Eager buyers scrambled to secure build slots and were even willing to pay hefty premiums above MSRP. Fast forward to today, and the tables have turned dramatically. Dealerships are now flooded with unsold Z06s—some even going for thousands below sticker price.
According to a report by Carscoops, Chevrolet’s inventory tracking tool reveals that 1,702 Z06s are currently available across the U.S. Of these, 1,001 are coupes and 700 are convertibles. Surprisingly, the Z06 now represents the most abundant trim level on dealership lots, even more than the base Stingray (1,092 units) or the hybrid E-Ray (873 units). In short, if you spot a C8 Corvette at a dealership, it’s most likely a Z06.
Several factors have contributed to this sudden inventory surplus. For one, initial dealer markups likely scared off many prospective buyers who were waiting for prices to drop. Additionally, Chevrolet recently gave the C8 a mid-cycle refresh, which means the current 2024 and 2025 models on lots still feature the older interior and lack new color options. The much-criticized “button wall” remains in place—possibly deterring some enthusiasts.
Another major reason for the drop in demand is the upcoming arrival of the ZR1 and the ZR1X. The 670-horsepower Z06, once the pinnacle of the Corvette lineup, is now overshadowed by the incoming twin-turbo beasts pushing 1,064 hp or even 1,250 hp in the X variant.
Chevrolet’s pricing data shows that many new Z06s are being listed at or below MSRP. For instance, a Riptide Blue 1LZ coupe is available for $107,464—a staggering $12,000 off. In total, 10 Z06s are currently priced under $110,000. Compare that to the early days of the model’s release, when dealers were asking for up to $100,000 above MSRP.
For those chasing ultimate track performance, the Z07 package (which adds high-performance tires, upgraded brakes, and enhanced aerodynamics) is still an option—but not an exorbitantly priced one. The cheapest Z07-equipped Z06 is listed at $125,790, also $12,000 below MSRP. There are currently eight Z07 cars listed under $140,000 nationwide.
Whether you go for the standard Z06 or the fully-loaded Z07, the value proposition is hard to ignore. Its closest rival, the Porsche 911 GT3, starts at $224,495 before dealer markups. Even without discounts, the Z06 delivers an incredible performance-to-dollar ratio—something Corvette has always excelled at.
