Waymo, the self-driving car division of Alphabet, is preparing to launch its robotaxi service in Dallas in 2026. This expansion is part of Waymo’s broader plan to grow its autonomous ride-hailing footprint across major U.S. cities. Unlike some previous partnerships, Waymo will operate the Dallas robotaxi service through its own app platform, allowing users to hail rides directly.
To manage the operational side of the fleet, Waymo has partnered with Avis Budget Group. Avis will be responsible for depot management, including vehicle charging, maintenance, and overall fleet logistics. Leveraging Avis’s experience and infrastructure aims to improve the efficiency and scalability of Waymo’s services as the company grows.
Currently, Waymo’s robotaxi service is available in five cities: Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, the company has plans to start commercial operations in Washington, D.C., and Miami in 2026, alongside the Dallas launch.
This move underlines Waymo’s commitment to expanding autonomous transportation solutions in urban areas, making self-driving mobility more accessible and reliable for a growing number of users.
