Snapchat has introduced a new feature called “Home Safe,” designed to automatically notify selected friends when a user has safely arrived home. This addition builds on the app’s existing location-sharing tools, offering users a simple way to keep their loved ones updated without needing to send messages manually.
To use the feature, users first set their home address on Snap Map by tapping their Bitmoji and selecting “My Home.” Once set, they can activate the “Home Safe” alert by opening a chat with a friend, tapping the Map icon, and choosing the “Home Safe” option before heading home. When the user reaches the designated home location, an automatic notification is sent to the selected friend confirming their safe arrival.
Privacy is a key focus for Snapchat with this feature. Notifications are only sent to friends who already have access to the user’s location, and location sharing is off by default. The “Home Safe” alert is a one-time notification and does not continuously track the user after it’s sent.
This new feature provides peace of mind for users and their friends or family, making it easier to stay connected and safe in day-to-day life.
