Microsoft has introduced a new feature in its Bing app called Bing Video Creator, which allows users to generate videos from text prompts using OpenAI’s advanced Sora model. This marks the first time Sora’s video generation capabilities are being made available to the public for free, as direct access through OpenAI remains restricted to paid users.
Currently, the tool is exclusive to the Bing mobile app and not yet available on desktop. While video generation is advertised to take only a few minutes in “fast” mode, users are reporting wait times of several hours.
At launch, all users signed into a Microsoft account can create up to 10 videos at no charge. After that, each additional video costs 100 Microsoft Rewards points. These points can be earned by using Bing for searches or shopping through the Microsoft Store — for instance, desktop searches can earn 5 points each, with a daily cap of 150 points.
The tool allows users to queue up to three 5-second videos at a time. Currently, the only supported format is a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, likely intended for platforms like TikTok and Instagram. However, support for horizontal formats is expected soon.
This move further deepens Microsoft’s integration of OpenAI technologies across its platforms, while also offering a new way for everyday users to experiment with cutting-edge generative video tools.
