Apple’s forthcoming iOS 19 update is expected to introduce an innovative AI-powered feature aimed at conserving battery life, as reported by Bloomberg. This new battery management tool will optimize power consumption based on individual usage patterns, enhancing the overall efficiency of iPhones.
The feature will leverage “battery data” collected from users’ devices to identify trends and predict when to reduce the power draw of specific applications or features. This approach parallels Google’s machine learning-powered Adaptive Battery on Android, launched in 2018, which analyzes phone usage to decide which apps should be restricted from running in the background and which should be prioritized for notifications and updates.
In addition to the AI battery management feature, iOS 19 is set to include a lock screen indicator that estimates the time required to fully charge the device. According to Bloomberg, Apple is primarily rolling out this AI tool for the upcoming iPhone 17, rumored to be the company’s slimmest model to date. Given the thinner design, which accommodates a smaller battery, effective battery conservation will be crucial. However, the AI battery feature will be available for all iPhones running iOS 19, not just the iPhone 17.
The iOS 19 update is also anticipated to feature a broader redesign. Apple is expected to unveil the update to developers during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a public release planned for September.
