Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 have entered production

Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 — have officially entered production and are expected to hit store shelves soon. The company had previously aimed to begin production in May, and it appears to have stayed on schedule.

However, production targets for both devices have been scaled back this year, reflecting ongoing challenges in the foldable phone market. Samsung plans to produce approximately three million units of the Flip 7 and two million units of the Fold 7, marking a 40% reduction compared to the previous generation.

Alongside the phones, accessories for both models have also entered production. Additionally, Samsung is reportedly working on a tri-foldable phone, expected later this year, though production will be limited to around 200,000 units, given its anticipated high price and modest sales expectations. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ‘Elite’ chipset — the same processor used in the Galaxy S25 lineup. The processor for the Flip 7, however, remains uncertain. Some reports indicate Samsung tested the Exynos 2500, but it may not be ready in time. If so, the Flip 7 may also rely on a Snapdragon chip.

While rumors suggested that the Fold 7 could be even thinner than the Oppo Find N5 (which folds down to just 8.2mm), it seems unlikely Samsung’s device will match that thickness.Meanwhile, Apple — Samsung’s biggest rival — is rumored to be planning the release of its first foldable iPhone in 2027, timed with the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. However, supply chain concerns are reportedly causing anxiety within Apple, especially regarding the company’s ability to equip every iPhone 17 model with 12 GB of RAM, which may affect future plans.
