Worldcoin Launches in the U.S. with Star-Studded San Francisco Event
On April 30th, crypto startup Worldcoin, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alex Blania, held a high-profile launch party in San Francisco to mark its U.S. debut. The event, featuring a performance by Anderson .Paak and champagne flowing in a warehouse venue, drew attention from across Silicon Valley.
At the center of the announcement was Worldcoin’s signature device: an “orb” that scans users’ eyes to verify identity. The biometric technology aims to enable a universal digital ID system, a key component of Worldcoin’s ambition to create a new global financial infrastructure powered by its cryptocurrency.
Though the sci-fi concept of eye-scanning orbs and crypto-based identity is polarizing and potentially impractical, Altman’s involvement ensures the project remains closely watched in the tech and crypto worlds.
