April 27, 2025 – In a significant step toward next-generation battery technology, Kuxiu has launched the S2 Qi2 5000mAh MagSafe Power Bank, touted as the world’s first semi-solid state power bank. Priced at $79.99, the device combines advanced battery chemistry with Qi2 wireless charging, offering consumers a safer and more durable alternative to conventional lithium-ion power banks.

A New Benchmark in Battery Safety

Solid-state batteries, widely regarded as the future of energy storage, promise higher energy density, improved safety, and longer lifespans than traditional lithium-ion cells. However, fully solid-state batteries remain difficult and expensive to mass-produce. Kuxiu’s solution—a semi-solid state design—bridges the gap, utilizing a solid-liquid hybrid electrolyte that enhances stability while maintaining manufacturability.

The S2’s battery contains 5–10% liquid electrolyte, classifying it as semi-solid state, a middle ground between conventional lithium-ion and the elusive all-solid state batteries. Kuxiu asserts that this formulation reduces risks of leakage, thermal runaway, and combustion, making it the “world’s safest” power bank.

Performance and Durability Claims

Kuxiu states that the S2 can endure 1,000 charge cycles before capacity degrades to 80%, doubling the lifespan of typical power banks, which often decline after 300–500 cycles. While the S2 carries a 60% price premium over comparable models from Anker or EcoFlow, its extended durability could offer better long-term value.

With a 5,000mAh capacity (19Wh), the S2 supports 15W Qi2 wireless charging, sufficient for a full recharge of smaller smartphones like the iPhone 13 Mini. Its compact dimensions (10.4 x 6.7 x 1.0 cm, 145g) make it more portable than some competitors, though rivals like Anker’s 5K power bank (120g) remain slightly lighter.

Industry Implications and Competitive Landscape

The introduction of semi-solid state technology in consumer electronics marks a notable milestone. While all-solid state batteries remain the ultimate goal, Kuxiu’s approach demonstrates a practical, scalable alternative that leverages existing manufacturing processes.

Competitors such as Anker and EcoFlow still hold advantages in certain areas—EcoFlow’s 5,000mAh power bank includes a kickstand and 30W wired charging, while Anker’s model is lighter and slimmer. However, Kuxiu’s focus on battery safety and longevity could appeal to consumers prioritizing reliability over additional features.

Regulatory and Technical Considerations

Kuxiu’s labeling of the S2 as a “Li Polymer” battery has raised questions, given that lithium-polymer (LiPo) batteries traditionally suffer from shorter lifespans and lower energy density. However, the company clarifies that the solid electrolyte in semi-solid state batteries can indeed be polymer-based, allowing it to fit both classifications.

Independent verification of Kuxiu’s safety and longevity claims will be crucial, particularly as the battery industry lacks standardized definitions for terms like “solid-state.” Regulatory bodies may need to establish clearer guidelines as this technology evolves.

Market Reception and Future Outlook

Early adopters of the S2 will determine whether semi-solid state batteries gain mainstream traction. If successful, Kuxiu’s innovation could accelerate broader adoption of solid-state derivatives in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and renewable energy storage.

For now, the S2 represents a promising but incremental advancement—offering enhanced safety and durability without the prohibitive costs of all-solid state tech. As research continues, the industry watches closely to see if this is the first step toward a post-lithium-ion era.

Availability: The Kuxiu S2 Qi2 5000mAh MagSafe Power Bank is now available for purchase at $79.99.
