Google Classroom has rolled out a new AI-powered feature designed to assist teachers in generating custom questions based on specific text inputs. Announced on Monday, the tool uses Google’s Gemini AI to help educators create tailored question sets with ease.

Teachers can upload documents from Google Drive or manually input text, and the AI will generate questions accordingly. These can be exported directly into Google Docs or Google Forms for classroom use.

The tool includes several customization options, allowing educators to filter by grade level, number of questions, and question type—such as multiple choice or open-ended. Additionally, teachers can specify the learning skills they want students to demonstrate, such as interpreting figurative language or evaluating arguments.

This feature is available exclusively to Google Workspace for Education users who have subscribed to either the Gemini Education add-on ($24 per user) or the Gemini Education Premium plan ($36 per user).

Google first introduced Gemini into Google Classroom in 2024 and has gradually expanded its functionality. Recent updates have included tools for generating vocabulary lists, summarizing materials like class notes and student feedback, and offering ideas for lesson plans.
