Sony has increased the price of its PlayStation 5 console by approximately 25% across Europe and the UK, with a potential price hike in the United States expected to follow.
The company made this announcement on its PlayStation blog, noting that the price adjustments also impact Australia and New Zealand. The new prices will be €500 in Europe and £430 in the UK starting Monday, with the rise attributed to inflation and “a backdrop of a challenging economic environment.”
The recent announcement of extensive tariffs on imports to the U.S. by President Donald Trump has unsettled stock markets, leading American consumers to prepare for price increases on a variety of consumer goods. Bloomberg Intelligence analysts projected a 30% increase for game consoles in the U.S. as a baseline scenario last week, suggesting that such a shift would necessitate a global price adjustment.
Despite the PlayStation 5 being over four years old, Sony has introduced a more expensive, upgraded version known as the PS5 Pro. However, the pricing for this high-end model will remain unchanged.
