Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the AI venture spearheaded by Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, has successfully secured an additional $2 billion in funding, bringing its valuation to $32 billion, as reported by the Financial Times.
Having previously raised $1 billion, the startup had been rumored to be on the verge of another fundraising round for an additional $1 billion. However, SSI has chosen not to comment on this new influx of capital, which is believed to have been led by Greenoaks.
Sutskever departed from OpenAI in May 2024 following a thwarted attempt to remove CEO Sam Altman. He launched SSI together with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, outlining a singular focus for the company: the development of a “safe superintelligence.”
As for their anticipated product, it remains under development, with SSI’s website currently serving merely as a placeholder featuring a mission statement.
