Amazon has begun testing a new AI-powered feature called “Buy for Me,” which enables the e-commerce giant to make purchases on your behalf from other websites, specifically the brand’s official site. This functionality is integrated into the Amazon app. When you search for a product from a particular brand, a section labeled “Shop brand sites directly” will appear, distinct from Amazon’s regular listings and third-party seller offerings.
By clicking the “Buy for Me” button beneath an item in this dedicated section, users are redirected to a product detail page within the Amazon app. Amazon claims this page will provide relevant product information akin to that found in its own listings. If you choose to proceed with the transaction, Amazon will handle the purchase from the brand’s website. The feature employs agentic AI, a type of artificial intelligence that operates without human intervention, to automatically supply your name, address, and payment details during the checkout process. According to Amazon, your information is encrypted, and the company will not have access to your previous or future orders from the brand’s website. You will receive a confirmation email directly from the brand store for your purchase; however, you can also track your order through the new Buy for Me Orders tab on your Amazon account’s Your Orders page.
The company has clarified that it is not collecting a commission on purchases made through this experimental feature, though it did not disclose whether it plans to do so in the future. Currently, the feature is in beta testing and is limited to a subset of customers in the U.S. using the iOS and Amazon apps. The test will also only showcase a small number of brand stores and products for the time being. Additionally, just days ago, Amazon launched another AI-driven feature called “Interests,” which can process everyday language prompts related to your interests. For example, you can type “Brewing tools and gadgets for coffee lovers” to receive relevant notifications regarding Amazon’s deals and offerings.
