Apple Intelligence is currently enabling users to direct Siri requests to ChatGPT, allowing for more contextually rich responses than Siri typically provides. During WWDC24, Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi hinted at the possibility of integrating additional AI models, such as Google Gemini. Recent leaks suggest that this integration might be on the horizon.
In a backend update associated with the iOS 18.4 beta, references to both “Google” and “OpenAI” have been discovered as options for third-party models within Apple Intelligence, according to code investigator Aaron Perris on X.
While this doesn’t definitively confirm that Gemini integration will be included in the upcoming iOS 18.4, especially considering previous delays with Apple Intelligence features, it strongly indicates that such integration could occur soon, potentially in a future iOS 18 update or with iOS 19, when Apple is expected to launch its own conversational Siri model.
Additionally, Google has recently released new Gemini 2.0 models, including a reasoning model, which could potentially be featured on iPhones in the near future, particularly for users of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16/16 Pro, or the new iPhone 16e.
